I am so excited for all these but especially Giant! As a Texan it is one of my favorite movies. I literally drug my family to Big Bend for two purposes, one of which was to stay in the same hotel where the cast stayed.

Hold up! Weโ€™re going to Big Bend for spring break!?!

Sarah, you MUST also spend time in Big Bend Ranch State Park while youโ€™re there! I visited in 2014 and enjoyed the scenery even better than in the national park.

I know you're the Travel Itinerary Queen but.... I can probably find my old itinerary. But yeah, Marfa is like a little over an hour from Alpine and the hotel is called the Hotel Pisano. There's pictures on the wall in the bar of the cast and stuff.

SARAH I have recs for Marfa!!!

Just got word from the library that my hold for Giant is available! Picking it up today!

Also, re America 250: my local NPR station, WHRO in Norfolk, VA has great mini-podcasts called โ€œRevolution 250โ€ since so much of American/Virginia/colonial history took place here locally. Hereโ€™s a link if anyone is interested.

Itโ€™s also not lost on me how cool it is to just take day trips and field trips to Yorktown, Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg, Richmond, Fort Monroe (site of the first Africans arriving in VA in 1619), when living in Virginia. Iโ€™m excited to see everyone else excited about our history too!

I contemplated for 5 seconds tops if I can handle a third book club, but of course I need to be a part of this special group โค๏ธ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ’™. It would have been less than 5 seconds but thatโ€™s about the amount of time it took me to upgrade my subscription!

I am going to try and read along, also doing Slow Read: The Stand!!

Shoot! I just started Roots on my own (great so far). So I'll pick up Giant when I can. Sorry I couldn't hang with The Stand.

Iโ€™m so excited! I finally got a copy of Giant from the library.

I finally got a copy of Giant! Iโ€™m starting tonight!

Woah- just got my copy of Roots in preparation - ๐Ÿ˜ณ I will need to start reading that one now ๐Ÿ˜‚

I was shocked that my local library doesnโ€™t have Giant. Trying to decide whether to purchase a copy or go for the audiobook.

Getting it on my kindle and did not know anything about this book before, excited to join!

Iโ€™m in!

Went to the Library and for my entire county is at another library. But because librarians are magic they are sending it my local. She said "this is an old book"

So this is really weird. A brief glance at Amazon and Waterstones are not showing any results for Giant, other than โ€˜Giant Love: Edna Ferber, Her Best-selling Novel of Texas and the making of a Classic American Filmโ€™ by Julie Gilbert.

I will make enquiries at my library, but it doesnโ€™t appear to have been published under another name in the Uk. Hmmm.

Did you check eBay? Thatโ€™s where I get ask my books!

Debbi McCall's avatar

Yes! Mission accomplished, thank you. Only one UK based seller, the US ones wanted a LOT of money, but one was all I needed ๐Ÿ˜

Iโ€™m in! Iโ€™m listening to the audiobook and the narrator, Courtney Patterson, is outstanding at creating dimension and voices for different personalities. Iโ€™m two hours in and my eyebrows are constantly up.
