First, we journeyed through the top selling fiction genre of romance and it’s undisputed queen Danielle Steele. Now, we’ll move on to the dark yang to romance’s light yin - crime/thriller. Compromising about 20% of the market, crime is another genre where people scarf down entire series and keep coming back for more.
And while the OG Agatha Christie’s record sales still reign supreme, the modern author who reigns supreme is James Patterson.
James Pattern has written over 200 novels and sold 305 million copies worldwide. He holds the Guinness World Record for the most #1 New York Times bestsellers by a single author and has written about 6% of all hardcover novels sold in the U.S. He wrote several standalone novels between 1976 and 1996 but it was his Alex Cross series that made him famous and we’re going to read the first in this female detective series, Along Came a Spider.
