I've done something similar before where I read a book I love and then try to read that author's backlist. I'm usually disappointed because there's usually a reason why they weren't famous before their most recent book! 🤔 I'll be interested to see how your experiment goes.
Once we've bought the book box, how do we access the posts about the book club? I have been trying to look at your recent post, but it says that I have to become a paid subscriber.
I’m still stunned at one billion books! And I hadn’t realised that Barbara Cartland had sold so many either. Fun fact @Sarah, did you know that she was Princess Diana’s step grandmother? Her daughter, Raine was Earl Spencer’s second wife and therefore Diana’s step mother.
I’ve never done a book club but this one sounded amazing! I love the theme, honestly I just love a theme… I ordered my books from the bookshelf, can’t wait to start!
I had wanted to read all of Elin Hildebrand's backlist this year in anticipation of her retirement and will just say that her writing improved over time ;-)
I am very excited for this new book group! I think I read ALL Danielle Steel's books (that existed at the time) when I was in high school so I'm sure I've read this one but I really look forward to revisiting it. I can't wait to see if it's held up :)
I would like to gently suggest not including surprises in book club boxes. I don't love paying for something I may not want or ever use, and as we think a lot this week about overconsumption, well...I already have 2 past surprise items from Pantsuit Politics book club boxes sitting with a pile of things that I don't know what to do with.
When I was in my late teens/ early 20s I read pretty much every Danielle Steele that was published at the time. The earlier books were very different from when she hit her stride. At that time I was also almost always a completist with authors I liked - reading their whole catalog. A lot of first books are like first pancakes so I’ll be curious to see what you think of your experiment at the end of the year.
Can you share more about what's in the box? When I click on the link, I just see the Danielle Steele book but it's $66. Does it say least include the other book? I love this idea.
I used to LOVE Danielle Steele. At some point I got tired of the main characters being “perfect”. So I went on to read Debbie Macomber books where her main character had some type of flaw. However, I really like this idea. I wonder if I really got tired of the formulaic books instead of the perfect main character. This should be fun!
My friends read a lot of Danielle Steele when we were in high school. I tried one and as a gay teenager, let's just say it was not my cup of tea. lol Never read another one.
Do I need to join another book club? Probably not since I barely keep up with the ones I’m already in. But do I want to join this one? Probably.
I am curious, though, about what’s in the box besides the book. I love supporting The Bookshelf, but the price is a little high!
The other book! So two books and a little surprise!
That makes more sense! Now to give this some serious thought…..

I'll send all book box subscribers the link to the zoom! There's no real discussion threads I just announced the book!
If we paid for the box from Bookshelf on Church does that include access to the bookclub discussion thread or is that separate?
I received my book box last week and it was a delight to open. 😊

Such a great concept!
Love this idea! Excited to talk books with you!

Such a cool idea! Just ordered the box!
I love this so much and can’t wait to join in!

Yes! It includes the other book which I believe will be a hardcover!
Here is a link with more description for those asking! https://bookshelfonchurch.com/shop-the-shelf/first-books-book-club-ssh

I didn’t find my first sapphic romance until I was in my late 20’s. What a joyful day that was. I still remember the book and the author.
This will be awesome!!
